The X-Lite softphone lets you make or receive calls from your computer using your Vonage Business service. The following instructions are based on X-Lite version 4.7.
System Requirements
- Microsoft Windows 7
- Microsoft Windows 8 (Desktop mode)
- Microsoft Windows 8.1 (Desktop mode)
- Microsoft Windows 10
- Mac OS X 10.9, 10.10 (Yosemite) or 10.11 (El Capitan)
Set Up the X-Lite Softphone for PC
- Add the softphone to an extension on the account. Go to Add a Phone to an Extension to start the process.
- Make note of the following information. You will need this when you download and install the softphone.
- Extension Number
- SIP/Authorization ID
- SIP Password (If you do not know the extension’s SIP Password, just change it and click Save.)
- Download and install the X-Lite Softphone.
- Open X-Lite, then click Account Settings from the Softphone menu.
- Uncheck the IM/Presence box under the Allow this accountfor section.
NOTE: Marking the option for IM/Presence results in audio quality issues or loss of registration. - Enter the following information in the User Details section that you documented when you added the softphone to an extension in your Online Account:
- User ID: SIP ID
- Domain: aXXXXXX.ac1.vbspbx.com:5060 (XXXXXX is your Vonage Business account number)
- Password: SIP Password
- Display name: The extension number
- Authorization name: SIP ID
- Verify that the Domain radio button is selected in the Domain Proxy section,
- Click the Voicemail tab. Enter *99 into the Number to dial for checking voicemail field.
- Click the Topology tab. Under the Firewall Traversal section verify that the None radio button is selected.
- Click on the Advanced tab and make the following changes:
- Under the Register Settings section change Reregister every to 30 seconds.
- Uncheck Send SIP keep-alives under the Connection Management section.
- Click OK at the bottom of the page to confirm all changes.
- Click Softphone, then Preferences from the main menu.
- Select Audio Codes from the left navigation pane. Use the < < button to move all codecs except G711 uLaw to the Available Codecs column on the left. The only codec that should remain under the Enabled Codecs column is G711 uLaw.
- Click OK at the bottom right of the screen to confirm all changes. The phone is now setup and ready to use with your Vonage Business extension.
Set Up the X-Lite Softphone for Mac OS

X-lite For Macbook Pro
- Add the softphone to an extension on the account. Go to Add a Phone to an Extension to start the process.
- Make note of the following information. You will need this when you download and install the softphone.
- Extension Number
- SIP/Authorization ID
- SIP Password (If you do not know the extension’s SIP Password, just change it and click Save.)
- Download and install the X-Lite Softphone.
- Open X-Lite. click Account Settings from the main menu to access the Preferences menu.
- Select the Accounts menu from the top of the screen and click the General tab.
- Uncheck the IP/Presence box under the Use for section.
- Enter the following information in the User Details section that you documented when you added the softphone to an extension in your Online Account:
- User ID: SIP ID
- Domain: aXXXXXX.ac1.vbspbx.com:5060 (XXXXX is your Vonage Business account number)
- Password: SIP Password
- Display name: The extension number
- Authorization name: SIP ID
